If schools typically send out more offers than they have seats, what percentages are we talking here? Would a school send out maybe twice as many offers as they have seats? Ten percent more? Three times more?

I guess it depends on where the school lies in the pecking order, so assume my target school lies somewhere in the middle to lower middle of state schools. It's a school that many people qualified would choose as a target or perhaps a safety, but it's also a school that I imagine lots of people will dump if they get acceptances at more of a name brand school like Harvard or Hopkins or something like that.

^^ exactly. somewhere between 2x and 3x. i don't think there's any school that has to send more or less.

if you have a specific school in mind, schools typically make this information available.
