How many of you were involved in extra-curricular activities?

I'm asking because throughout college I was not able to be too active in extra-curriculars.... meaning I went to like a few meetings of pre-med club (pre-dental club exists, but they dont do sh--). Throughout college, I always worked part time, so i feel that kept me occupied when I wasnt studying.

Whats everyone else's situation?

throughout college i always had a part time job taking anywhere from 5-15 hours a week.. i did do some activities such as volunteering for 3 hours a week, and in my last year i joined ethical society discussing medical related questions.

ohh ok, thats awesome.

i'm not sure if i should tell the dental schools about my rescue squad volunteering.. the thing is yea.. i went through training ceritfications as a first aider... but i did less than 20 hours... cuz after I started I got a full time job at an oral surgeons office........ do u guys think i should still put the volunteering down.. or will it jus look bad?

thanks

Putting down something little is better than nothing in my opinion... i had like 5 volunteer/extracurrics on mine and I was only in each of them for about a semester. but hey it is still something and i say if you got certified in first aid then by all means put it on there and get your credit for it. At the interview if the subject comes up then you can talk about getting a job and not having time to actually work much with your first aid.

going through two application process (aadsas, and amcas the year both) i have realized that what you write down on applications end up only as a conversation starters at interviews. not putting stuff down is not going to get you into the school, but will make it easier to start conversations at interviews. so yea put them down, nothing will be looked down upon (except get many bad grades 🙂

If you volunteered you should put it down. It's hard to devote time to things outside of school, and even if only for a few hours, volunteering with a rescue squad is worth mentioning. I only think it'll look bad if you joined the squad only because you wanted to beef up your extracurriculars, and not because of any significant interest.
