How many people are put on the alternate or "wait" list at most vet schools?

I called VMRCVM this morning bc I hadn't heard anything back since I submitted my application back in Oct, they told me I was on the alternate list. Does anyone have any idea how long that list is? Have people actually gotten interviews who were on the alternate list? Oh and I'm starting to lose my mind. There's a real chance I could go totally nuts. Limbo is hell.

I was wondering the same thing about Cornell; how many do they offer the 'alternate' status to and how many typically get accepted off of that list? I looked at last years school thread and it didn't have any implications towards this...

Ditto. Cornell c/o 2015 waitlist! Woooo!

Just wondering, did it say you are waitlisted on the status update or did you call to ask?

Got the email that my decision had been made, figured it was a rejection because I didn't get a call, but the letter said waitlist.
(Also I'm IS)

Just so you know, this thread hasn't been commented on in six years and the user you're replying to hasn't been on in three years, so don't be surprised if you don't get a response!

The number of alternates/waitlisted students and how many of them are eventually are accepted varies a lot from school to school and year to year, so you'll probably have better luck on individual threads for schools. If you're asking about Cornell, that thread is here and you can search for previous years' threads 🙂

I was wondering the same thing for different schools. I was at first put on the waitlist for VMRCVM, but was asked to interview a few weeks after that initial email. Before I received the email, they told me that the waitlist moves to quickly for them to tell students where they are on the list. Btw I am an OOS applicant. So there is hope!

The post you're quoting is from 2011, but congrats on your wait list position!

The wait list years everyone differently and varies year to year, school to school. I've heard of schools going through their entire list while Illinois didn't get near their list last year. But good luck!
