1st school i attended (small state school in rural wisconsin) : almost no one - at most 3 or 4 other people
now at second school (large UC in southern cali) : way too many - almost everyone seems to be a premed !

feel free to answer the poll below

That depends...

Freshman Year ~90% of the class self labeled pre-med
Senior Year ~10% of us remain
Of the 10% ~10 of us have successfully taken the MCAT and received competitive scores

Freshman year there are a bunch. Gen Chem and Physics weeds out a bunch. As does the weed/alcohol/partying.
Sophomore year, Orgo kills the hopes of some.
Junior year, MCAT kicks the few left in the face. People begin to realize medicine is not about glamour and money. Some find interest in other areas. Realize medicine isn't their choice.
Senior year, those that are left frequent SDN on late summer nights.

In my one class:
Freshman year: ~125
Sophomore Year: ~30
Junior Year: ~10
Those of us who are applying or have applied: 6

At the University of Michigan, they post stats on how many apply to U of M Med School from U of M undersgrad,
given there are almost 7,000 freshman admitted each year, 580/7000 > 8% are premeds.

Applicants by U of M undergrads 580, Interviews offered 97, Admission Offers 64

I went to a to a top 20 (private, non-Ivy) undergrad. I would guess about 20% of my freshman class was premed. That number probably went down to 10% by the time I took physics later on. I would estimate something like 5% or less remained by my senior year.

small school of about 1700 undergrads. we graduated with maybe 10 pre-meds (MD, PT, PA.. don't think we had any DDS)

Don't really associate with premeds , but in class they still seem to be a **** ton .

In a research uni of about 21,000, we probably have 1000-2000 new premed freshman. As others attest, that number drops as time goes on.
