How many programs actually don't interview you if you take Step 2 late?

Is this rumor true? Does it even matter?

I'm thinking optho or radiology at this point and wanted to see if taking Step II in the "sweet spot" of September is a good idea, bad idea, or doesn't matter.

I may just do a home rotation then an away before I take it. Any thoughts would be much appreciated!
