Yes it is one of those threads, but hey its that time of year. Current 4th year DO student looking at ACGME spots. I'm from the Southeast have strong NE ties as well, I'm not hung up on location. I'm not looking to climb the ivory towers.

Are my chances good? I feel like they probably are. I am worried and annoyed by my lack of anesthesia electives. How many programs should I be applying to? I'm thinking ~60 because of the DO thing, but maybe that is overkill.

Thanks for any input.

Step 1 229
Step 2 236
Mainly Honors 3rd year
Middle of the class in rank
President of a club
International mission trip
So far only one 2 week anesthesia rotation (I'm still fighting to set up more but they might not work out)
2 very strong non-anesthesia LORs 1 Uro 1 GI
1 probably pretty generic anesthesia LOR

Step 1 and 2 are about average for matched AMGs, honors throughout 3rd year is a plus, only 2 week anesthesia rotation and generic LOR are going to be the main dings. I wouldn't be surprised if it comes frequently on interviews. I would say 60 is probably right and not really overkill. Make sure to apply broadly and smartly (DO friendly programs).

I agree with gas blaster. Apply to 60 programs that have DO residents and do more anesthesia rotations. Your scores should be fine. Whatever you do, don't send your eras in late. You need to have it 100% complete on the first day it opens.
