I'm wondering how many programs I should be applying to in order to ensure matching? I don't want to overdue it. I'm interested in staying in the midwest region. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance 🙂

Step 1 - 235, taking Step 2 in July
Year 2 - mainly honors
NBME - top 25% on all exams, 98% on surgery shelf
ASA Delegate for school
Phlebotomy / Lab experience

Assuming no red flags, I'd say you're fine with 15-20 programs.
Midwest not that competitive like the coasts.

That's just an absurd statement. Many of the least competitive programs are on the east coast. Many very competitive programs are away from the coasts. I don't really get why people repeat the same nonsense over and over. Doesn't make it true.

15-20 programs is probably a fine number. However, if you apply to the top 20 programs, you may not match because they get hundreds of applicants just as good as you and don't have many spots. Apply to some strong but not quite as popular programs along with some elites and your odds of matching are good.
