MS3 here, planning out my application strategy.

COMLEX Level 1 was a 440. Have a few extracurriculars (wrote for a school newsletter, founded a club, some art). Failed and remediated one class.

How many residencies should I be looking to apply to in FM? So far my list is ~40, although I'd say half are in competitive regions. Does 40 sound good, or should I add even more in less competitive areas? Currently I am applying across Appalachia and New England, as well as scattered locations in the west and south.

Tough to say. There’s no magic number. It’s a decision you’ll have to make based on how much you’re willing to spend.

FM is more forgiving when jt comes to numbers, but they still matter. Having weak numbers (plus COMLEX only) limits opportunities. And not knowing your personality is an additional layer.

Thank you! Sounds like I should apply as broadly as I can and expand my geographic boundaries beyond what I have now.
And spice up my personality, if that's even possible, heh. 😎 I'm guessing we best express ourselves through our personal statement, LORs, and extracurriculars?

It never hurts to apply broader (within reason)! It's a better problem to have abundant interviews than not enough.
Haha I guess I mean more personality + fit for programs. The vibes of a programs differ greatly and it's hard to know what they're looking for. Yes to those 3 + the interview.
