in a lot of threads i keep reading " the resident" or "last years resident" does this mean there is only one 1st year and one 2nd year and one 3rd year podiatry resident per hospital per year?

That solely depends on the residency program. Some take one, some two, some three, etc. It all depends on how many they are accreditated to take per year. Needless to say, there are many programs that take multiple residents per year.

I hear that most people take 3 year residencies....

I think the OP is talking about how many people are in each residency program...not the length of the program itself. But you are right, now there are only 2 and 3 year residencies with the majority being 3 year.

my fault, ya you are right. Unless you are a 3rd year or later student, I probably wouldn't look too far ahead....Enjoy the present and do your best now. Worry about residency when the time comes....
