I'm just curious to see how many schools (osteopathic and allopathic) other posters are applying to this cycle...I think my number is around 10.
Right now about 12, only DO. Hopefully that will be enough. My husband and I are both applying and it's pretty essential that we go to the same school.
Thanks! (That was sincere right?) Our top choice right now is LECOM-B so here's to studying hard for the MCAT and good luck!

Good luck! I have a lot of students in my TPR classes who are applying as couples. Make sure you contact your individual schools.
Also, if LECOM-B is your top choice, have both of you considered applying to USF Early Decision?
Punchap, I definitely thought you were being sincere but I was just checking. A lot of people think we're crazy for both applying, especially with two kids, so I didn't know if it might have been a sarcastic good luck.
We have made the decision to only apply DO. My husband matriculated at an MD school about 11-12 years ago. We e-mailed MD and DO schools regarding him applying and we got the best and most encouraging response from the DO schools that replied. Once my husband learned about Osteopathy as an MD student he was really drawn to it. My mom recently moved to the Tampa area and we both really think we would benefit the most from PBL.
What should I say when contacting the schools individually? Any more advice for me because I would gladly welcome it. 😀
Well, if possible, I think your husband and you should visit the Dean or the Medical School at LECOM-B via a scheduled appointment. I think it it CRITICAL that they know you are applying together, it might make a huge difference, especially since I believe both of you are non-trads? I think you should ask one of the mentors on SDN for advice on this matter for sure.![]()
I wish you the best of luck, but I have to agree with the other poster - you really ought to request a scheduled appointment with the Dean to let them know you are applying together. Are you quite serious about this? It doesn't sound like it with your reasons for why an appointment with the Dean would be hard...Med school is going to provide even more inconvenience, especially since you both are parents, so I'd make sure you are serious about sticking with it before you talk to the Dean too.
However, this was meant kindly, so best of luck. I think it's really cool that both of you want to be doctors. What a cool thing to go through together.
I couldn't speak knowledgeably about what would be best, but I can say what I would do if I were you (for what that's worth).
I would take the MCAT, get back both of your scores, and then contact the Dean to let them know your application is submitted and you are applying together. I would then let them know that as you are applying as a couple, you would love to introduce yourself to the Dean, especially since LECOM is your number one choice. Ask if this is possible at all since your applications are a bit of an unusual situation. It can't hurt to be proactive, but I would probably wait til you get your MCAT scores back before you do. You want to make sure you both are scoring high enough to put both feet in - so to speak.
Does that make sense? As for childcare - it will be a couple of months from now...who will care for your children when you are in med school? Could you utilize that option for a short day in -day out trip?
Also, what are your plans for childcare during your interviews for med school? I imagine there might arise the occasion that you both will interview at the same time or same week, especially since you are applying to the same schools and together.
Maybe use those options?
All in all - I think that contacting the Dean even to let them know to look out for your unusual situation (married - applying together) is important. It sets you apart, and I think it should be a consideration that you are a married couple and you can't go to different schools.
Best of luck - I hope things go ok. Keep us updated on how things turn out.
