How many schools are you applying to?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I just finished all my VMCAS and supplementals 👍. I applied to 18 schools. Is that excessive? How many are you guys applying to?

that's the most i've ever heard of 😀 props to you for completing 18 supplementals!!

this thread has already been started once before, here is the link:

That makes me feel better. I had started thinking that my 9 were excessive since I've talked to people applying to 2 or 4.

So yeah. 9 for me, assuming I get all the supplementals done.

14 for me! I was also starting to think I was the only one applying to that many schools! It started with around 9-10 schools and instead of narrowing it down, I kept on finding more schools to apply to, lol

Wow, you guys have so much more stamina than me! I'm only doing 5 and think I would go nuts trying to finish 18 supplementals! Kudos!

yeah, it has definitely taken a lot out of me...I'm at home every night with supplemental paperwork all around me! it's my third time applying and I think I am getting desperate, lol! I'm done with most though, so relief will be coming soon 🙂

Yeah, it's definitely draining writing all those supplemental essays. I think for the last 5 I lost my mind and started to write sheer nonsense!

Hopefully, if schools are going to reject me, they will do so without interviewing me. I can't imagine going to 18 interviews and having 0 acceptances (I know all schools don't interview, but still).

I'm applying to seven schools. And ya, it is super expensive applying to all these schools. It took up my entire paycheck (working full time) to get the supplementals, gre scores, transcripts, and vmcas apps sent out. But hopefully I only need to apply this one time and I could definitely see myself at all these schools. I just here that the admissions process can be so unpredictable so I figure the more schools the better.

18 schools? That must have cost an everloving fortune!

I applied to six. Hopefully it works out for me! I know where I'd like to end up, but things don't always go as I plan them to!

Yeah, it was super expensive. I might have to sell an organ soon! I feel the same way as bruinvetman though. I'd rather apply to too many than too few. I can't imagine going through this application process again!

I'm only applying to 4. I can't even imagine how expensive 18 would be. GRE scores, VMCAS fee, supplementals, travel expenses :scared:.

I'm applying to 1. Yep, one. I was feeling good about this decision a while ago when I made it, but as the doubts are starting to trickle in I am starting to regret the decision.

I also applied to one school last year (same one) and obviously wasn't accepted. I just really want to stay in the area (for some mostly logical reasons and obligations) and didn't want to be faced with the decision to leave the area or wait another year and try again. So I removed the possibility of being accepted anywhere but my first choice.

If it comes to another try, then I will be applying much more broadly. If I were the praying type, I'd be praying to the admissions gods to not let it come to that though!

I say I am applying to one school... but in reality neither VMCAS or the supplemental is submitted, so maybe I am not applying anywhere! Still waiting for one letter...

if i could afford to apply to that many, i would!

The flip side to that is applying broadly because you cannot afford miss another year of pay after graduation.

I'm applying very broadly. Being from a state with no vet schools (ie contract seats only) and that the admissions process seems a bit random from year to year, I can't afford to not attend in 2010 because the process from my state is always more difficult.

Having said that, it's important to research and choose wisely because it could be money down the drain otherwise. (Or not, who knows?! grrrr)

We are 100% in the same boat, just with a different school.
