This thread is worthless without a poll. 23 in my case.

should "too many" depend on your stats?

should "too many" depend on your stats?

I think that it does. If you are a complete rock star (4.0, 36+, solid EC's, personable), there is probably no need to apply to more than 10 schools, as long as in those 10 you have your state schools and a few "safeties" that are friendly to people from OOS. Then again it is always better to be safe than sorry.

If you are unsure of your competitiveness, applying to 20 or more doesn't hurt at all except financially. More than 25 or so I would say is overkill, unless you are really at the low end of the spectrum in numbers and EC's.

Yeah. without a poll this thread is useless. Other than the number of schools you applied to, also list maybe your mcat/gpa if u want to!😍

oh and i forgot. im an international student! not sure of my gpa. maybe 3.7... and 39S for mcat!

This thread is closed! Thank you for your input and it is very welcome on the other thread with the POLL!

Thank you and apologies!😍

👍

wonderful job! i was looking and i was like. wow. what happened? it seems my threads combined!!!!

thank you! i was worried about creating a mess =P

mods rock!😍

I haven't gotten my MCAT score, but depending on that I will probably apply to ~5 schools. I might apply to more if I do better than I think. I'm not applying to many because my state school is relatively easy to get into and that is where I want to go. It's cheap and the scholarship I have for undergrad is 5 years and would cover full tuition for the first year of med school if I stay here.

Currently 36, expecting to hit abut 55ish total, but still waiting on waitlist before I burn even more money.

3.6, 32 (was sick and did roughly 6-10 pts worse than practice, retaking... :xf:)

wonder if we will have anyone outdo funkymonkey from last year.

Out of the people who i know applying here i think me, kokoeats, and FML might? I dont know whose applying to more then us. I did 45. I might add one more just for funsies😛.

out of curiousity how many did funky do?

a nice round 10. 2 reaches, 2 in-states, 2 as close to backups as possible, plus 4 that don't fit into any of those categories.

whoops, make that 11. i forgot to count the one that i put just so my app could get processed.

like 76 i think.

7 so far. Don't know if I'll add any more. This is my 3rd cycle now and I'm simply not going to shotgun my apps this year.

32R/3.8

I can't believe there's already 24% of us who are applying to over 31 schools.👍

The poll is, ofcousre, a bit skewed. For some reason, people who are applying to more schools tend to be more active on SDN. You, Koko, FML, Elijah, etc

Applying to 12 schools, all in the Midwest. 3.9/38Q

Don't let SDN make you spend more money than you need to. There is a subtle difference between a careful, broad application and pure insanity. 🙄

Wow.
How much does it cost to do 10? I probably going to aim for 15 schools. How expensive is that?

$160 for the first school, $31 more for each additional one for primaries.

Secondaries range from $60 to $100 is what I've heard.

So 15 schools would be around...

$160 + $30*14 + ~$80*12 (if you return 12 of 15 secondaries with an average of $80 fee each) = $1540

So you're looking at a little over $1500 if you return almost all of your secondaries. Then again, if you don't intend to return the secondaries of certain schools, just don't apply in the first place and save yourself $31.

Edit: I guess it's $31 for each additional school, so slightly more than the above.

WTF! I mean really WTF?

I am applying to 11 with a 35 and 3.8 GPA, but my GPA has 11 credit hours at 2.7 from high school dual enrollment. In real college I have 3.95+, so I think that will show a huge upward trend. I researched all of my schools and have a good reason for picking each of them.

Haha. We try.

Since we are doing the stats thing...

14 schools - 4.0/40Q

Isn't the stereotype of the ideal applicant a 4.0 40 ? I mean holy crap. At least you aren't applying to my top choice.

california applicants automatically are allowed +10 schools before being considered "too many"

Yea I think SDN def attracts people who are applying to more schools than the "average" applicant (including myself 😀)

but even around my very lax school I think the average is about 15-20

Dude, I feel like number is not everything nowadays.

I completely agree, but it is easier to say "4.0 40" than "research with publications as 1st author, curing cancer, saving infants in a 3rd world country, tutoring underserved youth, etc." I just thought it was strange to actually see it in the real world. We all know ksmi is more than just a 4.0 and 40, she also has some 5,000+ posts.

 I'm sure the 5000+ posts will get me in somewhere.
