How many schools did you apply to?

I agree. However, I would gladly pay the $340 rather than send transcripts, LOR's, and separate entrance essays to six different schools. It would probably take 30hrs minimum combined to gather and send all of that info. That breaks down to $11/hour. My time is worth well more that $11/hour. I know $340.00 is a good chunk of change, but compared to the 75-100k you are going to throw down for DTP, its really a non factor. I applied to 4 schools, heard back from 1, and got accepted to that one. Had I gone with only 3 schools, I would have been SOL. That's why I said it depends. If you're super confident you can get into any school, then only apply to one. But it is rather risky. Think about it in the long term, each additional school cost what, $40 on PTCAS. Avg PT salary is 75k/year. You just cost yourself 75k if you don't get in this year, all because you wanted to save an extra $40. At least that's my thought process.

I applied for 6 schools through PTCAS myself, so I'm definitely not disparaging others for doing the same. 🙂 My husband and I are waiting to have kids, so we wanted to minimize the risk of possibly not getting in and adding another year. I agree with your point about losing that year of income. However, I do think the value added through PTCAS is relatively minimal as compared to the cost, especially since many schools require additional applications regurgitating much of the PTCAS info, separate essays, and additional application fees.

I believe with the competition nowadays, unless you have a 3.8 and higher (for both pre-req and cumulative GPA), you should apply to at least 8-10 well researched schools.

Also, I would start using St. Augustine or other programs that either do not use PTCAS or are in the process of being accredited as my back-up schools instead of Touro cuz it seems that a lot of applicants have been using it as their backup school in recent years, so they are becoming more selective.

Most importantly, only pick schools where you could picture yourself attending for 3 years of your life, or else it's just a waste of money since you wouldn't attend the school even if they were the only university to accept you.

I hear ya. Additional applications, and supplement fees are bull. But that's on the school, not on PTCAS. Luckily for me, I accepted the offer from the first school that gave me a decision. And I got that decision before all of the other schools even sent out requests for supplemental apps and such. It felt great saying "no thanks, I don't need to pay anymore money for your supplemental apps. I already got in to a school that doesn't require any." Anyhow, Good luck to you, and your future family!
