Just wanted to see how many schools most people applied to. To make it simple, total number of schools MD and DO and only the completed applications. If the school does pre-secondary rejections that school counts. Otherwise, only count schools that you completed the secondary.

42 (just added UC Riverside today) being from CA and a reapplicant scares me

34 MD/DO Complete at 29

Sent from my SGH-T999 using SDN Mobile

Goodness! I thought the application process has been expensive for me. I see some of the numbers on this thread and I'm like 😱:wow:
I applied to 9 schools.

Disclaimer: This is SDN, a self-selected group of individuals. The national average is 14, whereas I wouldn't be surprised if the SDN average is 20-25+ (as it appears to be).

7 MD, 1 DO

Pretty much all the texas schools except baylor

Oh lawd, posted in wrong thread.

16 MD. I initially applied to 20 or 21, if I can recall, but I didn't finish the secondaries for the rest of them.

Guess I'm the lowest of anyone so far on here... 3

It all has to do with where I'm from though I guess.

Only 3 schools? Have you received an acceptance to any of them yet? And if you somehow don't get in this year, what will you do next cycle?

.

Sure does.

I know a lot of people who only apply to 1-3 schools and they all have gained acceptances.

I love how this is so foreign to people on SDN... (I mean that as a funny statement... not intentionally knocking you or anything).

Uhm, the average MCAT score for Arkansas isn't too hard to get. Not to mention they give most of their spots to in-state students, and they do this by congressional districts (school has to have at least so many people from each). I'm from the district with the lowest average MCAT and GPA. It's really my best shot at getting in so it doesn't make much sense, in my opinion, for me to apply to a huge list of schools. It's not uncommon for an Arkansas resident just to apply to Arkansas and that's it. My interview went well, but they don't look at anything on anyone's application until November and most decisions aren't mailed out until February.

Also, maybe I'm too easy-going for SDN, but if I don't get in this cycle, I just plan on retaking my MCAT, possibly extending my graduation date for my MSPH and taking a couple of fun classes, getting a lab job or something, and just overall improving my app. I doubt I'll apply to more than 5 next year either.

20 including the newly added UCR.

They better not have a long secondary,,..

Third time applying.

Round 1: 3 MD --> 2 interviews, 0 acceptances

Round 2: 11 MD --> 0 interviews

Round 3: 36 MD --> 1 interview so far :luck:

I believe the official average of medical schools applied to is between 12 and 15

Similar situation here. I'm an MS resident applying to only 4. My state school only has around 400 applicants per year, and it's the school I really want to go to anyway. There's no need for me to drop $2500 on the app process. I can totally understand people in more competitive areas doing this, but it's just not for me.

9 MD programs but most of them were dream schools. I have only filled out 2 secondaries and I have one interview at my school of preference next week.
