How many schools do you typically apply to?

Curious to see how many school DO applicants apply to... I am applying to six DO and few MD

Depends on you numbers. So far I applied to 5 DO schools and 17 MD. I've been accepted to every DO school I've interviewed at so far and have only had one M.D. interview. Looking back, I probably would have dumped two from my D.O. list and a few off of my M.D. list. It gets expensive very fast. I think the typical applicant applied to 10 schools on average (correct me if I'm wrong!), but things are getting a lot more competative out there.

Yeah it does depend. My husband and I applied to 14 DO schools. We chose the ones we felt we would want to attend. We might have to drop the PCOMs though because we're having a hard time getting the pain in the butt LOR. My husband got his B.S. 14 years ago.

Applied to 11, all DO. Now I think it's too many for me! I'll have to cut some interviews, I can't make it to them all.

I think the average is around 6 if you're applying just D.O., around a dozen if you're applying M.D. But I could be wrong.

12 DO, 8 interviews, 1 acceptance thus far
2 MD, 1 interview, don't care

I applied (sent secondaries back) to DMU, KCUMB, UNECOM, and OUCOM. I am still planning to send secondaries to CCOM and PCOM when money permits. I applied to about 20 MD schools, too. I have three DO interviews (2 acceptances), 2 MD (0 acceptances yet).

Looking back, I would dump some of the MD schools, too. I already paid my secondary money so I might as well wait to hear back. But, I think I found during this process that DO is a better fit for me.

13 schools, all DO.

While some people apply to 20 and others apply to just one school, the average number for those applying to DO schools has hovered around 6 for quite a few years now. Even though new schools have opened and more applicants are applying, the average is still right around 6.

I applied to 23 schools, about half MD and half DO. I wasn't sure how successful I would be so applied to too many. I have received interviews at all of the DOs I applied to (going to interviews at about half of those) and 1 MD interview. Been accepted at all of the DOs I've interviewed at.

I could have probably applied to about half as many schools, but I felt better about spending the $$ to cover my butt and make sure I got in somewhere.

1 DO (msucom-accepted)
18 MD-- all withdrawn now... after 2 promising interviews =)

Okay I'm changing my answer. We're now applying to only 10 schools. We're taking off the PCOMs because of the LOR requirements. Touro-NV rejected me although I like to think I rejected them. And, finally my husband just decided today that he doesn't want to submit the secondary for UNECOM because it's so far north. Let's hope 1 of those 10 wants both of us.
