I am sure many pre-dents are curious to how many schools they should apply to. On one of my interviews, they said the avg number of schools that people usually apply to is about 15. Again, I am making this poll to help out pre-dents in the upcoming cycle( plus i just learned how to make POLLS, so this is fun.haha)

If you have a state school, I would recommend 12 schools or so. If you don't have a state school, I would recommend 15, with the vast majority of those being private schools (if you do apply to a state school as an out-of-state resident, make sure it's out-of-state friendly so you don't waste your money).

I think you definitely need to do your research on which schools you would like to attend, but the more lines you put into the water, the better chance you have of something biting one of them.

The appropriate number of schools to apply to depends on the schools you choose and your stats. One should def apply to all in state schools, all OOS schools applied to should be OOS friendly and have similar average stats to yours when looking at the ADEA guide to dental schools. I only applied to 6 schools, I had average DAT scores, TOP grades and a ton of shadowing hours and extra-curricular activities, plus I worked two jobs most of college. It depends on your overall application. If you have more than one week area in your app then definitely apply to 10-15 schools. Time of application is also crucial. Make sure to have all LOR and everything else sent in with in the first 2 weeks of the cycle. If I was to apply again I would have only change 2 of the schools I applied to. I received interviews at 3 schools of the six, offers of acceptance at 2, and didn't even go to my third interview after being accepted at my dream school, OSU, which even for instate applicants is very competitive. Hope this helps anyone who is applying next cycle! Go Bucks!👍
