how many schools to apply to?

I won't be applying for about another year, but I was wondering if there is a way the dental schools know how many other schools you've applied to. If so, how many is considered resonable?

Yes, the names of the schools you are applying to are listed on the material AADSAS sends out to the schools. I think that the current, average number of schools students are applying to is around 8 (I keep reading conflicting numbers...). As far as reasonable, the number depends on you. While I personally wouldn't apply to only one school, nor would I apply to 50+, dental schools are aware that every year it is getting more difficult to gain acceptance and as such applicants hedge their chances by applying to a couple more schools.

I applied to 7 schools through AADSAS, then after I got all their paperwork, I went ahead with 3 of them: Florida, Maryland and B.U. , Got 3 interviews, choose B.U.

If you have decent stats don't waste your money applying to over 8-9 schools.. also, be sure to do some research on the schools you are applying to (location, cost, etc), just so you can narrow that list as best as possible.

...I applied in june without my DAT scores and i had no idea what kind of score to expect...Eh, i dunno, sounds like a circular argument to me!

I applied to 13 schools for the same reason - I didn't know what kind of scores I would get and I couldn't whittle my list down. Just be prepared to answer questions along the lines of "why so many schools?" I told one interviewer that I am miserable at checking my odds and that is why you'll never catch me in Las Vegas. He laughed and said that was good response.

Just curious, would they know if you applied to other professional schools? Such as an optometry school?

yeah theres a question on AADSAS that asks if you have applied to any other health profesional schools in the past and if you are currently applying to them.
