Twelve. All in the Midwest.

I applied to 21, but only because I was foolish not to do my research ahead of time. I didn't find out about SDN until just before I had interviews, so I didn't know which schools were good to stay away from. I certainly think I applied to too many out of state schools and schools that are very hard to get into because they have high #s of applicants. So around 15 is what I would recommend...

I am applying to twenty.

I'm real worried about my chances. The good side is a good GPA, great LOR, great EC/life experiences. The down side is a questionable MCAT (waiting to see!) and I'm leaving an allied health profession (I've heard it's a tough sell to adcoms).

I just don't feel that I can be sure with less than twenty (I don't feel sure WITH 20, for that matter). So I've got three reaches/dreams, three higher ups but decent chance, a bunch of schools I feel I've got numbers to match, and some that I have numbers above. I know that twenty will cost a lot ($730) but so would reapplying next year if I had to.

Good luck to all.

yeah, i'd definately go for more schools than less, i have 15 in the US and about 7 more for Canada. i agree with bigdan, better to spend money now than do it twice

I applied to 10 schools which turned out to be a total waste of time and money.

I knew my chances were the best at my in-state schools, but was all scared that I wouldn't get in. After writing tons of silly secondary essays and sending in tons of wasted money on non-screening secondary sending med schools - I didn't get any love from out of state schools anyway...

If I were to do it again, I'd chill out and apply to fewer school (like only instate schools or places I had connections) and use the money I saved to by lotsa margaritas! 😀

I applied to 15 schools...but that was largely because I had no desire to go to school or ever live again in my state of residence. Out of the 15 I got 6 interview- 2 from in-state schools, one from out of state public school, and three from out of state private schools. It was kind of interesting seeing what happened- because a lot of the schools I thought I should be set for didn't give me the light of day but other schools that I thought were a bit more of a reach accepted me. Who knows? Adcoms are a strange strange world that I won't ever understand.
