After reading in one thread that someone applied to 16 DPT programs, and another thread in which the OP only applied to one, I'm curious. How many schools did you apply to? Or in the case of people like me who aren't applying till next cycle, how many schools do you plan to apply to when the time comes?

I've got 12, possibly 13 on the list.

I missed all of the private school deadlines I was interested in, so I only applied to 3 schools.

i applied to 6 schools. happy with that number. i couldnt really afford any more, even though there were like 3 more i considered.

I only applied to 2, but that is all that fit my criteria. Moving wasn't an option, and I only liked 2 out of the 4 schools that are nearby. When considering how many schools you apply to though, I would encourage you to focus on your desire to go to the schools rather than the number. Every application you submit should be at a school you can picture yourself attending in a city you are ok living in. Good luck!

I applied to 4 schools; 3 which are fairly difficult to get into, and 1 "safety" school. Applying to 13 schools will be a lot of money. If you have good stats, recommendations and volunteer hours, do some research and narrow your schools down to about 5 🙂

I honestly couldn't even name 13 programs that I'd want to go to.

Only 2 Schools. Both are about 30 minutes away (not including parking or rush hour!). It's all about location for me and when UNC and Duke are in your backyard why look any farther? :xf:

I applied to 6...2 that I really didn't care about but were more backup, and then 4 big namers. I was planning on applying to a few more, but then I got an acceptance from one of the 4 so I said screw it - no use in spending more money I don't have! haha.

For me I was trying to decide where I had a good chance of getting in, and then where I could see myself potentially spending the next 3 years of my life. There were some other schools I considered because they were "easier" to get into, but I honestly couldn't picture myself.

My list is a mix of two schools that I would be indescribably ecstatic to get into, a bunch of schools that are not my first choice but that I'd certainly be happy to get into, and a few 'safety' schools that I'd quite honestly hate (hot/humid locations, expensive programs, boring places with no arts scene...)

Re: those safety schools in miserable locations...a) that's extra motivation to make my package as competitive as it can be, so I have better options, and b) I'd still rather tough it out for 3 years in a disagreeable place and get on the road to becoming a PT, than to get in nowhere and have to put it off. After it's all said and done, in three years I'll go back to my lovely freezing artsy home city and pick up where I left off, now licensed as a PT. 🙂

I had a question about this...

I know that for undergraduate admissions, if you use the Common App, the schools can see every other school you apply to (unless you send out the application completely separately to each school). When you use PTCAS, do the schools see what others schools you've sent the application in to?

As far as I know, no. I never used the common app so I don't know anything about it, but I feel like if other schools could see where you applied, PTCAS would have to include that bit of info somewhere on their site.

I originally applied to eight, then just recently applies to two more (10 total).

I have no idea about the common app, but schools you apply to through PTCAS can not see where else you have applied. I read somewhere though that starting next cycle schools will be able to see where else you have applied and even where you have been offered admission.

😡 That is utterly ridiculous. Please don't tell me they're going to be able to access that information during the admissions cycle. After the cycle has closed, OK, I guess I could see why they'd want to see that info, and it couldn't hurt anything to let them. But if they can see it at any point while the admissions process is still ongoing, that is completely unethical, as they could use that info to influence their decisions.

...just when I thought I couldn't possibly muster up any additional hatred for PTCAS...

Ok, sorry I guess I was kind of wrong... they won't be able to see where you applied during. BUT they will be able to see where you have been accepted. This is from the PTCAS website -
Sharing of Admission Decisions

Beginning in summer 2010, PTCAS institutions will receive reports regarding the number of offers of admission made to their applicants and number of offers of admission accepted by their applicants. At that time, your designated PTCAS institutions will know how many offers of admission you have received and how many offers of admission you have accepted at other PTCAS institutions. PTCAS institutions will not know how many applications you have submitted. They will also not know whether you were denied admission to another PT program or be informed of any other admission actions made by other PTCAS institutions, except the number offers of admission made or accepted. In fall 2010, after the completion of the 2009-10 admissions cycle, programs in PTCAS will be able to view the other programs in PTCAS to which their respective applicants applied and the final admission decision reported by each competing institution.

I am applying to 7 PTCAS schools and 1 non-PTCAS

Wait....some people accept more than one offer? ???

Number does not matters a lot the main thing is your interest and your efficiency. If you are fully decided you can apply to whatever number of schools you like and finally choose your favorite.
