How many stethoscopes have you lost?

On every patient.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic.
If not, then I am surprised.
Often our views on medicine are similar.
However, I will openly admit that I lost my last stethoscope during my PGY3 year and I have not even briefly considered buying another one...during PGY4, 2 years as an academic attending, 2 years as a fellow, or the last three years as an attending.
I did briefly consider carrying a "pocket ultrasound".

Funny, I am still waiting for a good pocket ultrasound that won't cost an arm and leg.

And yes, I tend to auscultate every patient. I lost a couple of stethoscopes myself, but I have always found that whatever I buy is way better than the one provided in the OR.

Never lost one. Had mine for over 9 years and yes, I still carry it and actually use it. A lot of people don't though in PP. Or at least they don't carry them openly. Probably tucked in their bags somewhere and not always used. In many of my hospitals there were always stethoscopes hanging on the medicine/anesthesia cart. I just found that gross to share ears though plus I listen to most of my patients in preop too.

Not even the ear piece (I consider this my first reply in this forum) .... lol

I do a brief, focused PE for every single patient. It’s what I did in training and I’m the type of person that once I get accustomed to something it’s hard to break the routine. I could be making this up but I also feel my patients expect it, especially the older ones. Not sure I could even take myself seriously if I had a real conversation regarding an anesthetic for a patient and didn’t even do a simple PE.

Given how seriously this board tends to take itself I’m not sure if I should be surprised by the lack of stethoscopes or should’ve 100% expected it from hubris.
