How many times did you apply before you were finally accepted to a U.S. Dental School?
If you applied more than once, can you also share on what you did to make yourself more competitive and what your final stats/activities were?

Thanks!🙂

Retook my DAT after taking biology and ochem. Amazingly, my scores improved dramatically!
Post-Bac program.
Rewrote my PS and had it reviewed.
More shadowing and volunteering.
Predental clinics.

1st time: late app, decent DAT, ok GPA
2nd time: added research + post bac classes
3rd time: master's degree (way better GPA), better DAT, more research (dental related). accepted.

1st time: Low extracurriculars, applied to few schools, didn't follow through on many supplementals/fees

Retook DAT:

BIO: 19->21
CH: 20->22
OC: 19->20
TS: 19->21
RC: 20->21
QR: 20->27
PAT: 24->23
AA: 20->22

GPA actually went down from 3.72->3.65

Did more extracurriculars, followed up on apps, got to know adcom staff.

I consider myself lucky as **** for getting in.

Applied Aug 20th w/o DATs, took them once on Oct 23rd.

3.3/20

First try FTW

This guy told me I wasn't going to get in and reapply next cycle 😀

I took the DAT again and did much better. It was worth it.

Took 2 times to get in.

Retook the DAT
Continued taking post-bac classes as a full time student
Got a job in the dental field

I applied to one school back in 2006, Puerto Rico. I had everything ready to go and then I got a letter from Puerto Rico saying that I was no longer accepted and that my seat had been given to a state resident. By that time I did not reapply in 07. I apllied this year DAT 19 3.5/3.3 and had five interviews(went to four) and two acceptances.

And I congratulated you profusely when I saw that you did! 😀 Year off was the best thing to happen to me for numerous reasons, personal and professional, absolutely no regrets

I applied once.

Waitlisted2009 will be applying at least twice, probably thrice.🙁
