How many times does a prof have to submit LOR to AMCAS?

One of my profs says he's limiting the number of schools to 10 maximum because otherwise it will be too much work for him. But my understanding is that the LOR only needs to be submitted once to AMCAS, and it will be sent to all med schools that I designate. I can have letter A sent to school subset 1 and letter B sent to school subset 2. Is that correct?

Hope someone familiar with this could answer my question. Thx a lot^-^

Use interfolio, it makes life so much easier. Go on their site and it'll explain it. Msg me if u still don't get it.

If he sends it to amcas alone (meaning with no other letters, just his own) then you can designate which schools to send it too.

If you have a letter packet sent that contains multiple letters, that packet cannot be split up and you will have send all the letters when you assign the letters to schools. That means no leaving one letter out if you didn't want a certain school to see it.

In both cases the letters are uploaded once and amcas will handle the distribution to the medical schools. It also sounds like you will be in the first part of my answer.

Thx a lot! I don't have letter packet. Just individual LORs. So that should be fine, only one upload right? I'll tell my prof about that^-^

Unless you are also applying DO. Letters are sent to each DO school individually. In that case it is easier to use Interfolio, like someone stated above.

If you want some schools to receive a different letter, then the prof can upload more than one letter. Say a professor is an alumni of school X. He can upload one letter for school X, and a separate letter for all the other schools. You then choose which letters get sent to each school.

Good luck.

I second the Interfolio statement if applying DO
