I was wondering how many free weeks other schools get after 2nd year to prepare for the board.

We get 3 wks. Some people feel it's just about enough while others feel it short.

How about your school?

I put this question here because I wasn't sure if this belongs to USMLE forum.

Thanks

We get about six weeks. Most students take 4 weeks studying for the Step and get a nice little vacation before our transition to clerkships course.

We also have 6 weeks between our last final and the last day we can take step 1. Most people choose to take it after ~4 weeks of studying, with 2 vacation weeks thrown in there somewhere (I'm taking one before I start and one after I take the exam).

Technically, eight weeks. However, the last two weeks of classes were actually review sessions, and most people didn't go, so that's 10 weeks. Most people take two weeks off after boards.

i have nothing to add to this thread except to say that i love love love love your name. i'm always a big fan of ayn rand references especially when they have to do with atlas shrugged my fave book of all time...did you know a movie is coming out supposedly w/ brad pitt and angelina jolie remaking the book? i still think they are both unworthy of the roles. ok back to scheduled programming.

We had 6 weeks.

I'd be scared to death of Hollywood trying to remake Atlas Shrugged. How many ways could they butcher it? Brad Pitt was in Legends of the Fall, and that was one of my favorite movies of all time.

OK, not stealing the thread. Nothing to see here.

We had 6 to 7 weeks, but my goodness please don't use all that time for studying. 4 weeks is WAY plenty, and you need time to decompress before starting rotations!

3. ouch. we're trying to get it changed for next year.

So, UCSD, has the shorted time alloted for the board with no time to relax a bit before the residency begins.

I don't understand why the school would do this to its student.

Actually, you get 4 at UCSD. (The c/o 2007 got it changed a while back)

somebody told me you have to take it by a date that is a week before your rotation, but that may be incorrect.

Always thought of Dagny Taggert as a blond. Last time I remember seeing Angelina Jolie as a blonde was gone in 60 seconds, and her hair was awful, only offset by the rest of her good looks.

Seriously, Hollywood make an Ayn Rand film, hard to believe. It is against everything they believe, personal responsability, knowing your work has worth due to the work and sweat you put into it, thus not for firesale to the general public. Pretty much most anti-social-medicine book you could read. But then again, who is John Galt?

To clarify, I'm not advocating forgoing social causes, I think we all should volunteer our skills. Key word, volunteer. It's not charity if the government makes you do it, it then becomes socialism and slavery to your fellow brother.

Completely incorrect. I know a fool who waited until the day before.

Most people give themselves a week or so vacation but it's not forced. There is no way to enforce it anyway.
