How many working while taking the prereq?
Started by blankguy
I'm working full time, doing all the prereqs at night. It's extra hard having a wife, a one year old, and another on the way. But a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do!
I too work 40 hours a week and take the pre/reqs and all other classes at night, during lunch, and online. It's a wonderful life.

Well, my job is flexible. I have to work during the weekends.
So it frees up some time for the weekdays to study.
Work as many hours as you like without sacrificing your grade.
I'm curious as to what type of jobs people have.
I'm an audiologist. Work 40+ a week and have a wife and 4 kids. I spend about 10 hours a week doing volunteer stuff for my church too. After two years of this schedule while taking my prereqs I have to think that dental school couldn't be much harder. I realize I'll have more classes at one time but I won't have a job. Maybe I'm being unrealistic but I am actually looking forward to Dschool as sort of a break from my current hectic lifestyle.

I work 24 hours a week as a Information Systems analyst while I take 12 credits/semester. I'm married and raise 3 children. While doing this I've maintained a high GPA. It's a tough load to tow, but I'm sure dental school will be tough too.
I work full-time nights as a Patient Information Coordinator (medical secretary/admitting/scut work for the nurses and supervisor) at a hospital, volunteer 4 hours one night a week in the ER of another hospital, taking 5 credit hours this semester and 15 next semester, plus am a wife and the mother to a Type I diabetic, asthmatic son. (I'm also doing my shadowing/observation) My husband and I both worked full-time plus took care of our son all through getting our Bachelors. I am also in the boat of looking forward to Dschool as a bit of a break LOL!
LOL= Laughing Out Loud
(I'm kinda old school- not used to having the cute smileys!) 😀

I work at a school where I teach vocational guitar classes and am the advisor of the Spanish club. Most of the classes I have taken have been offered at night, and since I work 8-5 it works out. But soon alot of the classes (O-Chem and Physics labs) are only offered right smack in the middle of the day, so we'll see how it all pans out. Oh yes, I am married too.
I'm 29, and sorry- I didn't mean to sound like I think I'm superwoman, believe me, nothing could be farther from the truth.
I work in a school setting too. I'm in the student records department for a charter school. I'm 8-5 M-F, so night classes are best right now. But, like raidernation, I'll be forced to take most of the sciences during the day. We'll see how it all works out. I might take a phlebotomy certificate program so I can do that on the side for 1) some type of clinical experience, and 2) extra cash when I have to go to part time. Plus it won't hurt to do that during dental school.

You will impress a lot of people if you said that you were studying AND working in addition to being a mom. People will think you are a superwoman or/and supermom

Yup, now all we need to do is find her a supermom costume to dress her up with the letter "Super Mom".

Good to know I'm not hanging out with super genetically engineered human beings all the time

Thanks guys! 😛 Now if I could only get my essay done so I can get this primary application off my back, all will be well. (I know, I know, I'm late.) 😀

yeah, for the chronically underperforming(DAT and/or GPA wise all wrapped into one tidy thread).
Man this board is so brutal! It makes you think that you have to be one to be a dentist.🙄
