Hi all, i have a question.
My school made me take Step 2Ck early so I took it last monday. And I have to admit, i thought it was BAD.

I am curious to hear some ideas how how much a low step 2 will hurt me for applying to programs.

My step 1: 256. I am ranked number 1 in my class but am not AOA. I am not really intrested in getting into any top ranked programs, just somewhere that will train me to be a good radiologist.

Lets say for instance, my step 2 came back a 230 or 225, how bad would it hurt considering all my other stats are pretty good.

Does anyone else get a kick out of these -- or am I alone? Dude your #1 in your class and have an INSANE step 1.

You say a 225-235 on step II is horrible?

I think you will be more than fine at most programs. If you have any drive, personality -- you should be set up nice for a good spot. Kills me that people like this worry, but to each their own.

I wish you well in the match! 👍

I'm guessing you got beat up a lot in elementary school...

I did "fairly" well on Step 1 also, and I also have to take step 2 early, in about 20 days. It is worrying me because I too wonder what will happen with a lower step 2 score. So to the OP, not a bad question at all.

Thank you.

I guess what i wanted to know is the amount of impact a bad step 2ck has. As in, is it just going to be small nick in your app or is it a deal breaker. I asked this b/c everything i have read says it "hurts you" without describing the magnitude of the impact.

I was (am) under the impression that you don't have to release your step 2 scores if you don't want to, particularly if you did superbly on your step 1 like you did. Not that you have anything to worry about anyway, but you could always select that option.

That trick only works if your Step II score comes back after you've submitted your application. That's why some people advocating waiting until September to take Step II, as your Step II score won't be transmitted to the programs you've applied to unless you specifically "request" it in ERAS.

Ah ok, thanks for the clarification.
