Hello all! So I’m from Brooklyn, NY. I applied both radiology and IR. The dilemma here is whether i should leave home and my parents or stay near by. Maybe someone can also give me feedback on some of these programs as i don’t know what the vibes will be. Obviously im leaning towards IR as well.
IR:
Rutgers New Brunswick IR
U of Wisconsin Madison IR
U of Texas Medical Branch IR
U of Rochester IR
Zucker Mather IR
St. Louis University IR

DR:
Maimonides DR
Morristown DR
Quinnipiac DR
SUNY Downstate DR
Arnot Ogden DR
Richmond DR

I don't know much about the others but can say that Quinnipiac should definitely be low - almost all of the residents there already had previous training as radiologists in their home countries and theres not really much training to be had. I think there might be a new PD so maybe things are different but definitely need to do your research

I would avoid IR altogether. DR is the way to go. w IR you're doing work that no one else at the hospital wants to do, take on more risks, and basically get nothing for it. People go into radiology to do DR. DR you can read from home have a great life--endless demand for your services. Along those lines I agree avoid SLU. and avoid wash u/MIR as well. Both ridiculously malignant programs for different reasons. Also nothing to do in St Louis.

IR in traditional sense is you pick em we stick em. In order to thrive as a VIR you have to have clinics, manage patients comprehensively and work like a surgeon. Agree DR and VIR are diverging and if you like DR would strongly encourage you to do DR as the lifestyle and flexibility are unparalleled. VIR is very busy with lots of emergencies and bleeding patients, trauma patients, sepsis often happen on nights and weekends . DR you can read from home and VIR you have to be in the hospital. Only do VIR if you love minimally invasive procedures and love variety of procedures from head to toe.

Lol no one answered his question
