Hi, I was hoping someone could help me out...

I got my GED a little while ago because I wasn't able to finish high school (wont bore you all on details 😴 ) And I am just starting CC and well, it sucks. The only reason I'm even in a CC is because I've heard that that is the route to go when you have a GED... that it would be much easier for me.. But uh, my question is HOW MUCH COMMUNITY COLLEGE DO I HAVE TO GO THROUGH BEFORE I CAN TRANSFER TO A UNIVERSITY?? :scared: Do I have to get an assoiciates, or what? I really want to get out of here and on with my education asap. Thank you! for any help, or feedback. 🙂

You may want to talk to a counselor. Both at your school and at the one you wish to transfer to.

My opinion...

I attended a CC (well the same College I’m attending now, used to be a CC but recently change to a regular College) I will be obtaining my AA & an AS in Nursing, then I will transfer to a 4 year University to finish my BSN. So yes you can finish your pre-reqs for whichever 4 year university you choose...There are some people that will tell you it looks bad, but there are plenty of people who have gotten accepted that have attended a CC. My classes at my College (recently a CC) were extremely tough...But they offer a more variety of classes at great times...And it’s about 1/3 the price! =)

So just finish with your AA and transfer...You will be fine, just choose your teachers wisely...

What is it you don't like about the CC? The reason I ask is because you'll have to take those same classes whereever you go and at the CC, they're cheaper and probably more convenient. What's the problem with them? How long you stay depends on you and the university you want to go to. I would call them and ask. If you have your GED, some universities suggest you got your AA before you transfer. Others may take you with just a few credits. It depends on the school you want to get your Bachelor's at.

I want to move, to California... And go to school there. Right now I'm in GA and my fiance lives in California, so we have this whole move planned.. and I want to get there as soon as I can.

You can still move in your situation. Get your GED results and transcripts, etc together and send them to potential schools in CA that you may apply to. If you want to leave immediately rather than accruing a lot of CC credits, you can move out there and: 1) attend a CA community college near where your fiancee lives and/or 2) apply to a school with relaxed admission standards that might be more likely to admit you with a GED. Be certain to work toward establishing California residency after living/working/obtaining driver's license/filing taxes, etc for one year (and CA is one of the easier states to gain residency, so it shouldn't be hard) since you plan on staying to take advantage of cheaper in-state tuition as a resident.

No wonder this guy hates CC. He's in Georgia. Christ, kid, if you want a decent education at a CC then you better get moving. You may not like California but you can't deny the quality of public schools here (not high school, ofcourse).😀

CC are great....small classes and a lot more attention. Big schools are a hassle and I wish I had went to a smaller one with less students per class (<600!) You will probably need the standard 60 hrs at your CC along with the state General Education req. to transfer.

State Education Reqs (sometimes called "GE" or general education) are courses mandated by the State prior to a degree being awarded at a public school. Usually they include 2-3 Math courses, Government, 3 Social Science, 2 English and so one. This basically means you can't go to school and take nothing but Math and get a degree out of it. The state will tell you what you need to take and your CC counselors are very well aware of this req. Get a list from them.
