how much debt does everyone have from undergrad?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
zippo in debt. i was lucky, i got a huge scholarship to undergrad, substantial financial aid from the gov't, and whatever isn't covered (ie-books, meal plan, housing) my folks help pay and my grandparents cause they want me and my sister to graduate college.

my mom said, she doesn't want me going to grad school with debt, once i get a job, then i can accumulate debt cause then i can pay it back. then i told her i want to go to med school. all the blood drained from her face, it was scary.

no debt... state schools in florida are free (tuition) if you meet certain requirements in high school, and between working summers and my parents having saved some for me, my living expenses are covered.

if people KNEW they wanted to go to med school before they started undergrad, i don't understand why someone would be willing to go into massive debt (over say 50K) just to go to a private undergrad school. my state school may not be perfect, but it's one helluva value.

Undergrad= $10G
Post bac $20G
Med School(MSIII)X Avg $40G/yr = $120G
Total $150G....does not include MSIV or interest!!!!!!

Roughly 2500USD. I worked allot in the summers and partime to keep the debt down.

i can't vouch for all private undergrads, but I know mine, and the ones I'm familiar with will do everything in there power to not let you graduate with more than $20K of debt. they will give you grants to cover anything more than that. I think a big misconception exists that everybody attending a private school graduates with massive amounts of debt. That's not true at all. I graduated with about $14K of debt and pay $112.00/month (I'll defer these subs. loans - meaning they won't accrue interest -- once i reenter the academic world) My education was well worth the $14k, I feel I got a helluva deal as well.

about 16K, but my parents are picking up my undergrad tab. I get to pay for med school myself.

About 7K. Not too shabby!

30k =/

I'm a po' bastard.

post-masters about 45,000.....

30,000k. I'm lucky considering my little private institution was 26k tuition alone plus living, etc. Thank God for the govt and really nice parents. 😀

I will have USD 200 000 in debt if I am accepted to med school.

SO, yeah, nobody here will have more debt than I have....😡 😱
+pissed+

I'm gonna reduce the amount of loan I get...
I take out about ~1300 per semester in loans but I'm gonna reduce it to about ~750 per semester

so I'm looking at about 6500 in loans when i graduate.

My study partner will have more than you just from med school. He has 3 kids and a stay at home wife & I paying out of state tuition.

Undergrad? Only 10K (scholarships)
Graduate? $40K for two years

I just have to keep telling myself that this is the best debt to have, but I'm not so sure how I'll be feeling about it in twenty years. 🙄

i agree with the previous poster mlw03. i'm glad i was thinking "maybe med school" back then and picked a state school with an excellent scholarship over an ivy or private for 40-50 grand a year. maybe my school's name doesn't make people go "whoa", but at least i'll be able to afford a study abroad trip next winter (to antartica 🙂 ) and will just have loans for medical school.

Out of school. Went to the University of Michigan for public health. And that $40K was with a "small" scholarship! And as I have said before... I would've stayed in state... but I had to leave upstate NY!!!!

😱 $40K for an MPH? I paid for mine out of pocket, but it was nothing like that!

I did public for grad school & was fully scholarshiped for my private undergrad. Course the public med school is adding up quickly.

Yup. That's what I get for being an out-of-state student at a school that wants out of state money without allowing you to get instate residency tuition... and also for me wanting to take the time to find myself. 🙂

i've been fortunate to have $0 debt for undergrad. it's definitely not a well-known school but hey - just like ucdbiochem, i got to study abroad and get into med school, so i have 0 regrets! 🙂

about $151,651,654,651,516,165,121,541,514,541.99 plus tax

but seriously i dunno still a freshman. hopefully $0. yea right?

Yeah, I am debt free! 🙂 But not for long.......dun dun dun 🙁
C'mon UCs!

$15K in debt from undergrad

interestingly, i owe less than several people i know who went to state schools. my school was expensive - $30K per year - but gave me tons of scholarship money. so i am of the school of thought that if you have true financial need, sometimes a private school turns out less expensive than a public school.

$2500 - Undergrad (big scholarship and nice mommy)
$3500 - Car
$10,500 - Postbacc (by the time I finish)
$16,500 Total (school + car)

That is my situation if I am accepted. Only one child though and he isn't due until April. Still some things are worth the money. Med school is one and your children are another.

after undergrad and my postbacc work (not an actual program-- just some classes i took after graduating), i had absolutely no debt. now i'm going to the cheapest med school in the country, and while i am living on loans, they're not nearly as bad as they could be. i'm lucky.

$0.0

Tuition is free, also with some extra scholarship

Managed to get out of out undergrad (Boston U) with no debt (very, very nice parents)...

Then came the post-bacc...

Which somehow amounted to $32,000. Of course $7000 of it was a study abroad program to London through MSU. I currently pay $390.47 a month for the damn loan. Can't wait to start med school so I can defer. Then I'll REALLY be in debt (to the tune of $250,000)! Woohoo!

No primary care for Elysium!

:wow:

I had the Navy pick up the $80,000 tab. So, I guess money-wise I had $0 debt, but life-wise I owed four years!

About $10k total. That includes two years of CC and two years of university. I will then owe about $15-20K more for my post bac at SFSU. Sigh...

$6.5k ugrad, 17K + 8.5K for two grad programs.

32K total before med school

if i go private, looks like ill go way over the
168K stafford loan limit

i see 250K+ once im done *faint*

I made it out of a small, private undergrad with just under $20k in debt - and that on the largest scholarship available (half-tuition). I feel lucky considering I loved my undergrad experience, and being the first person to graduate from college in my family, it was an accomplishment I would have paid significantly more for if necessary. I am planning on attending an out-of-state private med school too, but again, I think it will be worth it in the end. My parents (both only have associate's degrees) like to remind me that ignorance is truly more costly than education in the long run😉

Right now about $6k, mostly acquired from when I first got credit card offers when I was 18. Damn, should have listened to mom...

0$

If you graduate with a 3.0 in high school, your GA public undergrad tuition is free! Thank you Lottery!!!

I know where my kids are going to highschool now. ;-)

$0 from undergrad (Nice nice parents and no scholarships)
and will be $0 from Med School tuiton. I expect I will have to cover living expenses though.

$0 from undergrad, $0 from masters
now med schl is a whole nother ballgame
credit card from freshman yr is whats killin me, though i can pay it off by 1st semester med schl
