how much debt?

I'm under the impression that in the US you can end up with 200-300k in debt at the end of the 4 years. How about in Canada? How much does the average Canadian med student end up with (whose parents are not giving them anything)

$160K eh? that makes me feel a lot better coming out of ireland around $200K in the hole. maybe i'm not that screwed afterall hahahaha

No way! those are outdated.
The only reason the dept is about 160K is because some funds come from family or other source. It is hard to get more than 150k for loans if you are Canadian.

I would say the dept, if one was to start now is:

40-45k for tuition and fees + 10-15K for living.
That is 50-60K/yr x 4 = 200-240K US easy.

Ohh my bad.

160 for Canadians is high. But they probably live grand while they are studying.
Especially in places with cheaper tuition like Qc.

My friend payed only 2k tuition per year and spent 35k per year from his LOC.
