I talked to my dentist today and he said half the people at his school had never had any dental work done.... I personally have at least one filling in every single tooth besides the ones up front and every time I go to the dentist I have a couple more that need to be done.

Am I the oddball?

A couple of RCT's...no you're not the oddball.

I've heard of d-students getting surgeries done for practically free...as well as braces.

I've had sooo many fillings too. I'd like to think it makes us able to empathize with our patients better. 😉

Haven't had a single cavity or oral-related problem in my life and I owe that to brushing and flossing twice a day. It's amazing how much money you can save just by brushing and flossing.

I've had the following:

- Lots of fillings (as a child mainly)
- Root canal
- Extraction
- Sealants

😎

Your susceptibility of dental caries depends on genetics as well. Consider yourself one of the lucky ones.

I think genetics has an 80% cause to dental health.

5 years of braces
wisdom teeth out
2 baby teeth fused to my jaw ripped out

Yes, there are genetic components, but you can GREATLY diminish any susceptibility by practicing proper oral hygiene. That has been proven.

Lol! This is a funny thread.

I've seen hygienists with perio and dentists with dentures. Most people don't know that they want to work in dentistry at the age of 5 when they get their first permanent tooth!

There are so many factors. Fluoridated water, genetics, sugar consumption, xerostomia, etc.

Don't worry about what people think of your dental history, but if you don't floss start now!

Should we mention this in the application? like in PS or dental experience?😕

i think my parents paid for my orthodontists boat (it's okay though....my teeth look fantastic)

I have also had a ton of dental work done. I take obsessively good care of my teeth and still have major issues which is the same case with my dad. I've had multiple fillings, one root canal and one crown. I also have one implant on the hopper.

OMFG!!!!!

I've been watching a ton of Always Sunny In Philadelphia. It is like one of the best shows that I've ever seen.

(my favorite episode is "Sweet Dee Has a Heart Attack"...or "The Gang Gets Racist")

Sunny is definitely my favorite show! Unbelievably great writing! BTW, were you saying OMFG because of the amount of work I've had done on my teeth or because of Sunny? lol

I never once went to the dentist growing up, family didnt have enough money. Luckily i never drank soda and took pretty good care of my teeth. No braces, no gaps. My wisdom teeth have also come in, but they came in straight so i didnt need to get them removed. I've only had 1 cavity my entire life and it was in my 3rd year of college. The only time i had ever gone for the dentist for anything was to get this 1 filling. I had all this done after i had already decided to pursue dentistry and had volunteered in dental clinics for about a year. I'm using myself as an example of the many family's that cant afford dental care and my motivation to help them
