First of all, I will be applying next year, June 2010.

I am planning to take DAT end of June after I apply..

So, I was wondering when is a good time for me to start studying DAT..

I know that earlier the better.. but studying 5 or 6 months before the exam day could actually make the things so not interesting.. and perhaps decrease my ethusiasm for DAT...

So,,, When should I start studying DAT?
How long do I need to study in order to get 21+? (how many hours a day?)
Please share your experience please!

thank you!

I took the DAT in July and I studied about 3 months, 2-3 hours a day...but everyone is different.
I'm retaking it in the spring and I started to review for it again...nothing intense, about an hour or so a day just reviewing...by next month I'll be ready to jump in again!

if you go over two month, it will be painful and boring after a lil...

1.5-2 months 4-6 hrs a day and start when the school is out

good luck

It's hard to say. But someone once told "You will get out what you put into it." I graduated about three years ago. I work full-time. I've been studying for a little over two months everday, and that was just for chemistry. My best advice is get some ass glue and hit it hard b/c the scores are getting higher and the pools are getting more competitive. You'll know when your ready, only if you prepare properly (now say that 5x's fast). Good luck!

How much time you spend will depend on your background in the sciences and also how efficiently you study. If you take advice from SDN, it'll probably cut 2-5 weeks off your studying time, for example, focus on destroyer, topscore, cliffs AP bio.
I did a science undergrad and felt i was comfortable with DAT material, so i studied for 3 weeks, 4-6hrs/day.

I see.. thanks a lot guys.

But just wondering..

If you are studying 2-3 hours a day for like 3 months...

Do guys normally study one subject a day for 2-3 hours??

or do you guys break it down to different subjects?

about 4-6 hrs/day for 3 months (took couple weeks off due to midterms/finals)
I alternated the subject (mondays bio, tuesdays ochem, etc)

I see.. thanks a lot guys.

Take advantage of the fact that in the american DAT, you can take it whenever you want, in Canada, you can only take it either in November or February, so basically in the middle of the fall and winter semester respectively. I would say 1.5-2 months for 4-6 hours per day and then 8 hours per day for the last 2 weeks and you should be dandy.

Hey Jobe,

I studied chem everyday for the past two months just b/c synthesis rxns really worried me. I'm on Bio now. I consider myself to be doing a pre-review of everything, and then will be moving to practice problems/tests, b/c that is what will define my score. Repitition reptition repitition! 🙄

Thanks guys.

I'll probably start studying in Feburary and study 2-3 hours everyday and 6-8 hours when I get out of school which would be from mid May to end of June... which is the day I am going to take the real DAT.

Thx!

albuterol lies. he's a genius. he studied for the dat like the day before the exam...

For three days prior to the test. Got 19AA and 22 PAT. It helps if you're majoring in something science.
