how much does content review play in your score on MCAT?

That person clearly had the comprehension and analysis abilities to do well on the MCAT. But poor preparation can botch any MCAT performance. It's not that big score jumps don't happen; it's that many people who need a big score jump who did poorly the first time simply aren't capable of that kind of score jump.
Right. I would say that the people who most need a comprehensive, effective study period leading up to the exam are the people who are least likely to conceive of/be capable of conceiving of one. Many people don't even recognize their own inefficiencies, see how passive their review is, or notice that their insistence on explaining why they weren't technically wrong prevents them from learning how to predict what the test will call correct..

I had a friend who used to have me study with him leading up to the MCAT. I wasn't prepping myself at that point, and knew nothing of his content knowledge.
However, I saw exactly how much time he put in studying...and how inefficient he was at it/how bad he was at listening to feedback. He got exactly the score I would have predicted based on those factors alone (though needless to say, he was surprised/disappointed in the score...it was perfectly fine, but he was expecting far better given how much prep he put in).
