I know this is kind of a vague question but I was wondering if anyone could tell me how much a step 2 score will help my application given that my step 1 score was a 217 and my step 2 ck score was a 244.

I know that this helps me some but does this significantly help me or just doesn't hurt me. I know that this isn't that easy to answer but if anyone has any good input i would appreciate it. thanks

In FA for Step II CK there is a chart for how impt each component of your Med school performance is as far as PD's are concerned.

Step I is more impt than Step II, but not as impt as M3 clerkship grades. Step II is about as impt as your M1/M2 grades. So yeah, it would help, but it's not as good as getting a 244 on Step I.

Step 1 was below the average and step 2 was almost a standard deviation above the mean. That is a pretty significant jump. You should be proud.

While Penguin is right, it would have been better if you did better on step 1, taking what you already have, you have greatly improved your chances. Now it depends on what you want. If you want something less competitive which has averages around where your step 1 score was (general surgery, IM, FM, Peds, psych, neuro, EM) you will have greatly improved your chances. If you are looking into plastics, derm or the like, it's not going to help you quite as much.

It will no doubt make you vastly more competitive than if you got a 220 on step 2.
Good job.
