Hi all,
I've been out of undergrad for about a year and have recently decided to go into medicine, so I am planning to apply to postbacc programs for the fall. Until now, I've been focusing my attention on Columbia's program, but it's recently hit me just how much money I'm going to have to borrow in order to finance it. I've looked at Hunter, which seems to have a decent reputation, as well as tuition that's a fraction of Columbia's.
From what I can tell, the advantages of going to Columbia for my postbacc would be 1.) the prestige of the institution, 2.) the fact that the program is very structured and they seem to help you along every step of the way, and 3.) the linkage program. There is one specific med school on their linkage list that I'm particularly interested in, so this is quite a draw for me. However, I don't know if these things are really enough to make it worth going. I also recently bought the book "Med School Confidential," which claims that it really doesn't matter where you do your postbacc.
So, what do you guys think? How much difference will the institution of my postbacc program make in my application to med school? For the record, I went to a reasonably reputable school for undergrad (not an ivy, but far from being a community college) and had a 3.7ish GPA.
