how much does your undergrad effect app?

i'm a bit concerned about this b/c my science gpa is not great (3.2) but i go to a tough school (MIT). will having good but not spectacular grades at a top university still work as a positive for me? i've been given the impression that some admissions officers will weight your gpa depending on your school and that i should be fine. any thoughts?

Well, if you go to MIT, then you should have no problem scoring 24-25+ on the DAT. With those scores they will know that you know the material and your GPA should be justified.

For what it's worth, the majority of my interviewers complimented me/seemed impressed that I go to the school I go to. My not so great sci. gpa didn't hold me back from getting interviews either. I did back everything up with EC's and the DAT, and I think I was able to hold good conversations with my interviewers. So your school may get you to the door if your GPA isn't so hot, but there have to be other things that carry you all the way. We'll see how it goes come December too...

actually, i think scoring 24+ is pretty difficult. i took the DAT back in late june and scored 19/18/18 on it. does that mean i should retake it? i thought by having to wait 90 days it would delay my application too much and i really didn't think that i could improve my score that much. for ex, although i'm a bio major i only scored a 17 b/c the knowledge was so different than anything i've covered in a long time. what do you think? i have a lot of shadowing, summer research at a dental school, and an internship at a different dental school.

Just out of curiosity, why didn't you apply to UCLA?

Because UCLA does not take international students. So it would be a waste of money. 🙄
