I Want to see the average pharmacist hours on this forum. how much hours do you work? For Hospital and Retail? so who works more? hospital or retail?

i work 4 -10 hour shifts.

I work both & its variable (the advantage of experience!!!!).

I work ON AVERAGE 24 hours/wk in my retail setting (this is where I get benefits & I must maintain a 24 hr/wk avg - but the avg is spread out over a quarter)

I work 8-24 hrs in the hospital.

Not all hours are within the same week - it varies depending on need.

I'm long past the 40 hour work week!

Is it possible to work around 60-70 hours per week by choice? you know to pay off loans right after school. Is it easy to get a position that gives this many hours for one pharmacist.

Thanks.

I am not in pharmacy school yet, but I have heard here and other places you can work as much as you want as long as ur body can take it

I can't say for hospital, but any of the big retail chains will be more than happy to give you that many hours if you want them. I work with a pharmacist who routinely does his base hours at his home store, then floats to other stores and he probably averages 80 per week total. This will obviously be more feasible if you are in a big metro area with a lot of the same stores close by so you don't have to do too much driving.

as a pharmacist you can work as much or as little as you want.

you have the right idea. work hard when you first get out. save your cash and pay off bills with high interest rates. and don't buy a 50k car the week after getting your license.

Heres a scenario:
When I got out of school, i worked 40-48 hr per week. I now work an average of 60 hr per week in my home store. This is 3 yrs out of school. I am gonna put in my hours now, pay for my cars, and then level off. I work 5-12 hr shifts;not in a row. usually 3 on, 1 off, then 2 on, 1 off. My body has gotten use to it.

For anyone that works for Walgreens is it hard to get in overtime with their 8 hour shifts? Or do the pharmacists regularly work over 8 hours/day if they want the extra time?

Gotta scratch that off my post-grad to-do list then...

I am not saying don't do it at all...(look at me..haha..)

just wait 'till you get some things taken care of first and have a solid foundation. 👍
