...have you guys had to pull out to pay for school? If it is relatively low, are you guys working? How many hours a week are you working in addition to attending pharmacy school?

I met a pharm tech that is in his 3rd year and said that he only has $40,000 in loans thus far and he only works one day a week. I thought that was insanely low.

At our exit financial aid meeting, we were shown that the lowest debt anyone in my class was in (solely from student loans) was $50,000-ish. Everyone else was over $100,000, closer to $115,000-120,000. The highest in debt was $138,000-ish, I think.

Mine will be about $80,000, I locked in the first year at 2.4% or something like that. We were told that any loans taken out after that could be locked in at that % too (maybe b/c they're govt loans) but I'm not sure. I also get $8500 a year subsidized (govt pays interest while in school) it's the max you can get. I didn't have debt before so I figure that it's worth it.

...cause I did some figuring and living in Chicago with barely working is gonna run me about $115K. I thought I was abnormal when I was talking to the $40K dude in his 3rd year. Maybe he lives with his parents. I don't know how you can get away with that amount of money. Tuition alone is over that.

Isn't $115K a scary amount of money? I don't think I've earned that amount of money in the 15 years I've been working! 😱

It all depends on your tuition, cost of housing and/or transport, and the way you live.

Tuition ranges from (by memory here) $8500 to $30000+ in the USA, so that's a huge factor.

As well, rent can vary greatly depending on the market in the geographical area. Some people are close enough to live at home, which cuts down on food and utility costs.

If you go out to places with $10 covers and $5 drinks all the time, it can add up. Fortunately for most of you :meanie: , the drinking age is 21, which forces you to cut down on your costs. I'm not so fortunate 😀

I figure, at my school, with tuition being CAD$12000 and cost of housing at about $750/mo for a bachelor and $350/mo for the crappiest basement apartment, one's total costs for a year would be about $23k with a bachelor apartment.

Here's my situation:

Tuition for 7 courses (1 semester) ~1800$ CAD.
Books: ~500$ CAD
Memberships/Fees: ~250$ CAD

So i'd say ~4500$ a year, I live with my parents.
Mind you we get a huge amount of free things each year, I think we've received over 500$ worth of free stuff already.
