Sooooo I really really really hate studying IR spec....

Are we suppose to memorize allllll the absorption values for the functional groups? Just watched Chad's video on it, and it's such a pain in the butt to keep all these numbers straight in my head...like for carboxylic acids, theres a peak at 1700...and 2500-3300...then for aldehydes, its 1700 and 2700 & 2800...

blah blah blah blah
Is it necessary to memorize everything? Anyone have a lot of IR questions on their real DAT?

Thanks!

Try to understand the idea behind it. Also try to know the obvious ones like hydroxy groups. I don't think I had any questions on IR on my DAT but I'm sure they would be basic

I took mine on 6/28 and no IR problems! Had one easy NMR questions.
From what I have read here, whoever gets em, had at least 2 or 3 IR.
Good luck!

Just know how to use it and what exactly its used for (dipole moments/functional group identification) and only memorize major values like carbonyl, alcohols, ect. I had 1-2 very basic questions on IR spect.

I memorized all of them. It is very possible that we will get a question on that.
