So you've clicked on this thread, flamethrower pointed at me, and are ready to let hell loose to the one who spoke this over used question.

Look,

Im a member of this forum, and i created this account for anonymity. I admit it. I want to be an ortho for the money. Thats about it. I would like to help people, thats a side thing. But the main thing, is the money. ( and no im not the kind of moneywhore who will charge some kids mom 2000 extra cause she doesnt know he doesnt need extra fillings).

Convince me not to be a dentist. Im always hearing people here say, GO BE AN MBA YOULL MAKE MORE MONEY....well what jobs specifically.

Tell you what, you guys name me some jobs that make more than a dentist. (EXCEPT FOR CEO AND IBANKER). And im out of dentistry. Cheers.

megatron's little brother (aka transformers)...give it up!

but to answer your question...

MD specialist (neuro, cardio, ortho, etc) - 300K a year
professional poker player - up in the millions per year
real estate developer - 6 figures for the most part
las vegas bartender - 1000 a night (about 5 hrs a night)
professional athelete - at least 500k a year
senior manager of accounting firm - 250 a year
invent something cool - you can retire rich!

oh, and there are more. help me out fellow SDN'ers....

there are a ton of jobs out there that could make you the money of an orthodontist/dentist/or any other DDS/DMD career you're pursuing. but i tell you this, i hope you try to set up practice around me as i will dominate you and the shallow standards you try to bring to the respected dental community. good luck my friend...good luck!

You might need to revise down that real estate developer # in most areas of the country right now:eek:;)

Yes dentists make a lot. Why not become a dentist and also do real estate on the side? Then you have the potential to make much much more! Better yet, go into the business aspects of developing a consulting firm for dental professionals involving the buying and selling of practices and make even more! There is simply unlimited potential. Yes getting an MBA will allow you to make around the same money as a competent general dentist but you don't necessarily have the autonomy and thrill of running your own practice...you are working for a corporation instead (but if you like that thing go for it).

Proctologist-$400,000 a year!

You are going to have a sad, sad life if all you interest is in money. I suggest growing up before you decide what you want to do.

In all seriousness, you better actually like what you're doing if you want the level of success that you desire. Ortho, or any part of dentistry can be a VERY profitable career, but you have to work at it, it just plain and simple isn't open up an office and bam your practice is grossing 7 figures the next day.

For an ortho to be highly successful, you need to be very good with your people skills, both to your referral pool of docs AND more importantly to the patient/parents of the patients who will be paying you. Then, you need to be able to handle running the business and that often means not just the books, but your staff and then day in and day out ALOT of patients coming through your doors. If your in an area with other orthodontists then you can also add in the stress of competition.

If it's all about finding a part of dentistry solely for the $$$, the realization of what it takes to make that $$$ will wear on you quite quickly and then you'll learn a hard lesson that money doesn't buy one happiness afterall.

gold dig. The sky is the limit.

When you get into your practice, your question change to:

HOW MUCH DO DENTISTS HAVE TO PAY IN TAXES?

Just do the smart thing and marry an orthodontist. That way you'll have love and money without having to do all the associated hard work. Cha ching $$$ ! ;)

:sleep:dentist

:hardy: Smart and observant. What more could a person ask for? We should change the thread title to "How Can I Marry a Rich Orthodontist????"

have real straight teeth and huge.............(or a huge...............):laugh::laugh::laugh:

Proctologists make $400,000/year? Not somthing I would want to do for any amount of money. But that is just me.

I'll take it you're being sarcastic about this. If you are not, then you missed it big time.
