What's the minimum number of days/weeks whereby it would not be considered rude or inconsiderate? I'm two weeks out from interviewing at some programs that I now realize would be at the bottom of my list barring something miraculous happening at the interview.

I think 2 weeks before the interview is reasonable. Later than that and it is a hassle for everyone to fill spots/etc.
Interview broker has some programs locked at 2 weeks so I'm using that as my benchmark

Agree about 2 weeks being best for all parties involved. Between 1 - 2 weeks is less optimal but acceptable. Less than that and you're prob a douche (barring an emergency/crisis/illness).
I'd even be okay with the 1 week point as there are local applicants who we have on the wait-list that we could probably get to take the interview in that period of time. But to cancel the night before really makes little sense. And I assure you, it goes noticed! I have seen some PD's send out a message on the CORD Listserve in years past. I don't agree with doing that, but it is really unprofessional to cancel that late without some serious emergency. There are a lot of applicants nationwide who would like that interview spot!
