How much of 1st year material do you reencounter 2nd year? I presume you review some of the anatomy, phys, biochem, micro, embryo again when you do path correct? Do you feel if you came into 2nd year knowing 1st year cold, 2nd year would've been much smoother having to only focus on just the path?

Not rlly second year is all new material and more info than first year.. there is some review of basic concepts in physio/whatever else may be relevant but no where near the detail u went into first year again. IMO you rlly dont need to know much first year material to understand second year material but that could also be because I was a science major in undergrad and a lot of the basic science terminology is ingrained in my brain and its more second nature to me even at the start of 2nd year.

Second year builds on first years in well designed curriculums. There is little time for repetition of the basic science material and you need to have a firm grasp on the basic concepts otherwise you will have a tough time keeping up in second year.

It's mostly new stuff. They assume you know the first year stuff and really don't "review" anything.

Sounds good, i mean i get pharm is new but when I see the stuff in Rapid Review Goljan, a lot of 1st year stuff is incorporated but just in the context of organ systems, i.e.- you learn the immuno and immuno-related diseases...biochem and biochem-related diseases...so it seems like that foundation is repeated but I agree, there's a ton of new stuff

I guess it all depends on your school. There was enough review of the relevant 1st year material covered at the beginning of each block during second year that as long as you learned it at one point during 1st year it would quickly come back. The things that dont you could always just google or look at your old notes.

I agree that it depends on the school. For my school, out of each subject (about 20 to 40 lecture hours), about half a lecture or one lecture was review of last year. This doesn't sound like much, but the review was very pointed and tended to bring back enough memories to be sufficient.
