is there a lot of calculation problems?

Cuz HY Genetics stresses that but FA only has like 3 sentences about it.

you might have to do one basic calculation of allele frequency or heterozygote frequency with the p^2 +2pq + q^2 = 1 and p+q=1 forumulas but I mean thats a big maybe. I would spend like 5 minutes max on it

It's not a very difficult concept and you'd like to atleast read the 2 page discussion in Kaplan Biochem&Genetics book. Shouldn't take a lot of time. Better safe than sorry. And yes, there ARE a few questions in NBME!

I had 1 question on it (took step 1 on 5/13). I was given the disease prevalence of autosomal recessive (q^2) and I was asked to calculate the heterozygote prevalence (2pq).

i guess giving disease prevalence of autosomal recessive disease is fair...but what about x linked or autosomal dominant...cuz u have to start applying rules to them...ie. an autosomal dominant, p^2 assume is 0 and assume q=1..etc, and in X linked disease, disease prevalence = male q and female q^2
