How much of your rotation is pure game playing/political B.S.?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
similar stuff here. BS is about 80-90%. such an arbitrary system. It does not help when you have a gunner in the team who not only does not give you a chance to answer a question but corrects you in front of your preceptor or finishes your sentences for you.

Too damn much. I'd say about 60%. And there's nothing you can do about it. Just suck it up, accept it, and move on. It will be over one day. Give it a few years.:laugh::laugh:

Welcome to medicine man. It's a ton of fun but it is a world awash in difficult personalities. Schmoozing is an essential skill just like auscultation.

My favorite trick: ask you attendings questions that allow them to give long, rambling answers about themselves. A favorite for surgery would be, "Dr. X, what do you think about the 80 hour work week?" It's amazing how susceptible academic physicians are to that sort of stuff. If you have a self-important resident, say something like, "would you mind just going over a few H+Ps/notes with me when you have some time? I feel like I need to tighten up my style."

You can call it sleazy, but I get great evals...

haha. that's kinda what i do, since i don't learn sh**. Might as well play bull-oney and get tons of face time instead.

come on. get in the game!

Think I'll try this one.

100%. Medical school is about not about learning scientific medicine, it's learning how to negotiate situations and how to become an effective communicator.
