How much salary?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
NIH guidelines stipulate all post-docs being funded with NIH money earn at least post-doc minimum (as given by xanthines link). Many universities also stipulate that all post-doctoral hires should make at least this amount (often even more, see for example http://postdocs.stanford.edu/handbook/salary.html) regardless of funding source.

This is what you should be earning at minimum. Many broke or unscruplous PIs will find loopholes that allow them to pay you less than this. In this case, your only chance is to take it or leave it. It's very common to exploit foreigners in the USA, and you may not be able to escape that.

So do you think there might be a problemt that the NIH says, nope you can't hire this person because you can't pay her that certain amount? What if this position would be called research assistant and not post-doc? Can you tell me an hourly wage/monthly for that position?

These are institution specific policies.

There is no set wage for research asssitants. I've seen everything from minimum wage ($7.25/hr) for high school students to higher than the NIH minimum salaries for well qualified lab managers, which are often still officially titled research assistants in many cases.

Note that you need something that will also provide you health insurance. Many research assistant positions do not provide this. If you become ill or get injured while in the U.S.A. without health insurance, you will be in serious trouble. Paying out of pocket for health insurance is very expensive.
