How much sleep did you get?

I got about 6 hours or so despite going to be around 10... between not being able to sleep and continually waking up, I didn't get the 8.5 I wanted!

5 hours 2 nights before
5 hours the night before

Overall, I know my score suffered quite a bit because of fatigue. Nothing could replicate the experience the night before, there is no simulation for that.

About 8 hours the night before, plus about 2 hours worth of naps on Friday. Thankfully, anxiety has never really affected my ability to sleep.

Lucky people who were able to sleep well. I got about four...stressed out the whole week prior.

i probably got 7 hours of good sleep...i kept waking up and/or having dreams that i couldn't fall asleep. it was so strange.

same here..

compensated mine with coffee tho' 👍

well, a moderate amount is good

Went to bed around 11, but never really felt I had a DEEP sleep. It felt as though I were half awake the whole night through, and yet I knew I was technically asleep. A slight disturbance would have woken me. Weird experience. But to answer the question, probably about 7 ish hours.

I had the worst night. My dorm's heat is freakin out, so even though it was mid-sixties that night, our heat was on full-blast. I was soo hot I slept in my boxers, on the cool concrete floor, next to the open window. It sucked- got 4 hrs. of sleep and now my back is killing me.

I was passed out in bed around 9:30. I went out to a nice Italian dinner with my parents and some of their friends that Friday night and so I was full and had a glass of wine to relax me. I was also pretty tired since I'd been getting up at 5:30 the entire week since I needed to get up at that time on Saturday. I woke up once during the night at 3:45 and started freaking out thinking that I had to go already, but I couldn't figure out why my alarm didn't go off. Overall, I think I got about 7.5 which was pretty good.

About 4 hours...I kept waking up and reliving the nightmare of that biology section, and wanting to scream, hit something, cry...

OH you're talking about BEFORE the test!! HAHA.... (Yes, I knew that...)
About 7 hrs.

Orthodoc, it'll be all right, i'm sure you did fine. Yeah, that bio section was pretty challenging...

ONE HOUR!!! IT WAS HORRIBLE!!!! I had 3 cups of coffee(I NEVER drink coffee!!) and i think i'm still wired! Running on 5 hours of sleep in the past 62 hours

For those among us that have trouble sleeping... has anyone tried anything effective? I was thinking of ambien but did not want to introduce an unknown and be in a daze during the test, better to be wired on caffiene with the lack of sleep.

i've tried ambien a few times before, it doesn't seem to have any affect on me whatsoever.

i got about 3 and a half hours of sleep. my head was hurting by the end of the day 😍

4.5 Hours here, Went to bed around 1:30 & woke up at 6:00, I was running around all night getting everything ready for the girl who was watching my two sons, I wanted everything to go smoothly while I wasn't there, just in case I was not able to call home to check on them during the ~10 hours I was testing.

I got almost no good sleep. In addition to my nervousness, I injured my should earlier in the week and was unable to sleep on my belly, which is how I sleep. I kept waking up and drinking water in the middle of the night and peeing as well.

I left the MCAT with a brain fog.

Benadryl!

i was really intense about it.

for about a week before i was going to bed at 10 and getting up around 5:30am just like i'd do on the saturday.

then friday morning i went on a 5:30am run for a couple miles - that definitely made me dead tired around 9:00pm or so for me to sleep. and my bed is a little too comfy. i fell asleep immediately. 🙂

A shock of exercise (doing more than you normally would) during the day. It'll knock you out at night.

A solid 7+ hours. It took me roughly 15 mins to fall asleep. Last August was a different story. Couldn't fall asleep for over 2 hours 🙁

👍 😉 😍

Definitely test-run anything you try before the day of.

I used Tylenol PM at ~7:45 the night before, slept like a rock for ~9 hours -- it really helped. Then a doppio espresso macciatto at Starbucks on the way (doesn't have test-obstructing effects on the bladder, as filtered coffee does) and a Sobe Adrenaline rush each before the verbal and biology sections.

Does that make me chemically dependent? 😛

Got a good 6 - 7 hrs, kept waking up in the middle..... had a nice breakfast and went to tackle the beast... 🙂

Probably, but whatever works! I wish I'd done the same...

Get up early the week before the test. The night before I had a big meal (fetticine alfredo! 🙂) and a glass of wine so that when I got back home I just watched an episode of Scrubs and crashed at 9:30.

I also don't ever do the meds thing to make me go to sleep since I'll still be feeling it the next day.

wanted 9, but only got 7. i lay in my bed wide awake for 2 hrs staring at the ceiling

ditto. cept during friday I gave a poster session for my research and i thought being extra tired that day would make me fall asleep easily, but boy was I wrong!

2 hrs. not kidding, the same amt. I got in August.

Did your August 2005 score suffer from your two hours of sleep or was it pretty close to your pratice test scores?

My silly girl friend and I fought before the test. She kept me up all night crying. Lucky me! 😀

Sounds like your "girlfriend" was trying to sabotage you. Could this not have waited till later? what a bitch!

I kinda of planned and got little sleep on Thursday night, maybe about 3-4 hours, forcing myself to get up really early on Friday morning.

On Friday night, I actually fell asleep pretty soon after I went to bed and slept like a baby for about 8 hours and got up feeling good and energized.

b/c of the test anxiety my sleep kept moving later and later during the whole month. at the end ended up going to bed around 2am didn't fall asleep till around 3am
i probably counted more sheeps than hours i studied for the test 🙁
bottom line just 3 hours.
after the test i had like 15hr 🙂

hey cubandoc! i'm in south florida too. did you take the exam at UM? are you an undergrad there?

i slept for 17 hours before the exam.... i think most people should sleep at least 15+ hrs before... u need ur rest

Went to bed at 11p next to my 103.7 feverish toddler and sang to her till about 1:30A. My husband took over, I went to the couch and finally slept from 3A-6A...I was exhausted but my mind just could not stop!!!

The last two weeks leading up to the MCAT, I couldn't sleep AT ALL! I was a ball of nerves. The Thursday before the exam I went to bed at 1 and forced myself to wake up at 7 AM even though I probably slept about 5 hours total.
The night before the test I got in bed at 10 and got a back massage with lavender oil from the sweet BF. Kitty (see my avatar!) curled up next to me and wow I was OUT. Probably slept about 7.5 or 8 hours before the exam. VENTI AMERICANO from Starbucks before the exam and I was set 👍

hehe, funny you should ask. My August score was miserable but mainly because my lack of sleep caused me to freak out when I took the ps section. I was the one with the BRUTAL ps section, so it was very hard to handle since I was not prepared for being shocked. I am sure you have heard that a lack of sleep makes it more difficult to handle very stressful situations.

On the other hand, this time I was so stressed I could not sleep again. At 2am I told myself, if I get an awful PS section, I am voiding the test--luckily, I was blessed to have a decent ps...regardless of potential errors (like calculating ion concentration)---it was just like a practice exam. I truly felt ready for this test and was not intimidated by it. By the time bio came, I was forcing myself to focus, but luckily the writing sample helped get me going. I think ADRENALIN will keep anyone in line---we will see with my score.
