How much spending money while in school?

(1) I imagine it varies from school to school, but ... in general how much money do you have to live on once tuition, fees, school supplies, (school related costs) etc are paid for?


(2) Any specifics for UNC as applies to question above?

Not a lot. At Howard we get about $16,000 spending money for the year. Rent is high in DC too. The school they should be able to tell you how much you will be getting after tuition and fees or at least they should be able to tell you what last years incoming class recieved. Each school has a budget. Call the school.

Michigan factors in $22,000 a year for "living expenses." That's around $1800/mo... Whether or not they allow you to take out more than that, I'm not sure. If you take private loans, I'm sure you could get (almost) as much as you wanted...
