Alright guys, so I'm just wondering how much time everybody spends towards math while they are studying for the DAT? I honestly haven't spent near the amount of time on math as I have in other areas (most of my time is spent on science obviously). For those that have taken the Kaplan course, is going through the math workshops, quizzes, subject tests, etc. enough to do well on the math section of the DAT? I suck at math and am worried I'm going to overlook this section and do poorly on it even though my practice math scores haven't been too terrible.

I studied for the DAT for about three months and I probably spent one day a week for about 6-8 hours stduying QR. I ended up with a 19 and was happy with that. You have to be fast, super fast. Whatever you do don't neglect QR. For studying QR I used Kaplan online, topscore, and DAT destroyer. I just did as many practice problems as I could and tried to increase the speed with which I did them. Good Luck.

YES I did ALL of the Kaplan stuff. I sucked at QR when I first started but by the end of Kaplan it was my best section. I ended up with a 23 for QR on the DAT 🙂
I recommend spending about 6-8 hours a week(there is a lot of math stuff on Kaplan) as fldnstrm said.

did you think the kaplan QR stuff was similar to the questions you saw on the real DAT? some of the kaplan problem solving questions are really difficult, especially the probability and permutation/combo questions. those make me so nervous 🙁

i studied 2 days for about 10 hours each day out of the three months i studied for the dat. this was after not taking a single math course in college since i took AP Calculus in high school. i thought i scored a 20 but scored a 17 on the dat. if you study even 5-8 hours a week consistently it wont be a problem.

Well the questions are similiar enough. The actual questions of the dat arent going to be that different from practice questions(limit to how different they can make the questions). Kaplan gives you a ton of questions some extremely difficult and some pretty easy. After doing them all, no matter the difficulty you get on the test you should be able to handle it.

Rishio, did you go through and relearn everything in the KBB before you did Kaplan problems? Were the problems more helpful or was the KBB?

I spent about half an hour everyday for 2 weeks going through the regular destroyer QR questions, then spent a whole day going over the ones I got wrong. I ended up with a 19 for QR, ran out of time and had to guess the last 5 questions.

Are we talking about kaplan BB and the cd that comes with it? I've looked over it and thought the problems were pretty easy compaired to the Destroyer? I have 8 days left to study do you think I should quit using destroyer and focus on the BB?

Well the only preparation I used was the Online Kaplan Course and all the materials that came with the class. So I didn't use the KBB for studying. But I don't doubt the questions in KBB are good practice questions to do. You should do all practice questions(well as much as you possibly can).

only the math sections on practice tests (online kaplan tests/topscore). did half of the QR in destroyer. then the last 2 days before my test i realized i didn't know how to do complex problems so i finished up the math destroyer the night before my tests (did all 10 tests in 2 days), ended up with a 21 on it.

if you know the formulas and how to make sense of the problems, you'll be fine. a lot of the questions u encounter in practice problems have similar formats, they just manipulate the formula used to solve it

For me, the best thing I used was crack dat math. I just reviewed the basic stuff like formulas and trig identities and then did the practice tests from the CDM software to really hammer the concepts home. At the same time, if there was something that I didn't understand from reading about it, then I would use the built in video explanations in the software that were extremely helpful.

Once I had everything down then I started working on speed so that I could get as high a score as possible and avoid the common pitfall of running out of time.

I've also noticed that the opinions here on SDN vary on how representative the problems are of the real DAT QR, but I personally thought that they were dead on.

I just went over the QR in Destroyer twice, memorized their formulas, and did 2 topscores tests. I ended up improving my QR score from a 13 to an 18. Personally I thought the QR section of Destroyer was much better than Kaplan and Topscore.

I've been doing the DAT Destroyer not Math Destroyer, I have 8 days left to cover a little PAT, review chem and learn math. SHould I just keep working DAT destroyer math or would you guys advise me buying CDM or just do Kaplan BB, qr section of destroyer and topscore? Thanks.
