How much time do you spend in a city after an interview?

If you're interviewing in a city you've never been to how long do you hang out in it afterwards? esp. if you travel alone? do you just catch a later flight out and just roll your suitcase along to the sights?

I remember when I did undergrad college visits it was so nice to stay and visit a friend who was a current student but if you don't know anyone like that how do you best explore a city/school on your own past the guided tours?

I tried to leave all my interviews ASAP because I missed a crapload of classes and I needed to get back to work, lol. I wish I could have stuck around though.

are there any schools that have visiting programs like for undergrad? I realize dental stuents are MUCH much busier then undergrad students but it would be extremely nice to be able to visit a student and go through a similar "buddy" system. I don't think any dental students let you stay with students who have volunteered though right?

We have some SDNers who have volunteered to let you crash but it still seems different then if it were through the school. I really wish we had a buddy system through the schools so you could visit a student, what do you think?

I've never heard of such a buddy system, and they didn't mention anything like it at the schools I interviewed at (Nova and Columbia).

As for your original question, I always book my flight to leave the same afternoon/evening because I usually have studying to get back to.

I usually fly up the night before and back the same day.
From San Diego to Nova I missed only 1 day of school. NYU wouldve been 2 days because of plane delays, but it was during the fires and school was cancelled

I recently graduated so I dont' have classes to run back to but how much of a city can you see on your own, after awhile I think I'd really want someone else to see the all new stuff with or get info from but sticking around a few extra hours to catch a later flight sounds good. Plus, it means less days to take of work 🙂
