Unfortunately, I just finished my freshman year without having been involved in any EC's. This was mostly because of me having to make a lengthy commute to get to and from school everyday, which left me with little free time during the week after fulfilling my commitment to academics.
However, I did work weekends for about 6 months during the school year: three months in retail, and three months as a pharmacy tech (a position I continue to work in). Will having work experience, especially in jobs which involve dealing with people, look good to adcoms? Just to be clear, I'm not doing this to pad my resume at all, I just need the money since I'll be paying for my own education.
