I'm an impoverished fella so I won't be paying anyone. However I was looking at admissions data for a certain med school. An individual had a 2.4 17 MCAT and got accepted. However the disclaimer was not to get excited because this persons daddy likely is on the wall of donations at the school. Just curious how much would you need? Haha

Hearsay but I once read on SDN a news story about a kid who had a huge connection with one of the deans at a med school in Florida. This undergrad ended up getting in even without taking the MCAT.

Edit: I was wrong. But here is the news story with the facts

I remember that story, I hear that the person actually ended up doing well in school. I don't know if its true since that was also hearsay

$200 million would probably do it, that seems to be the going rate for school names at least.
Hmmm, I should go take a look at my savings account, maybe I can work something out. 😛

I don't know how this hasn't already been said, but: If you have to ask...

Kind of more to do with the Florida kid story, My friend told me about a guy whose dad pulled him out of high school and paid for his to essentially become a filmstar. Then he sends him to Caribbean school and he went and did well on Step 1 and is set for residency about 3 years before he would have been had he gone the normal route. He did not have to struggle through O-Chem, muddle through physics, take the MCAT, do all the general medical school stuff, etc yet he's still good. What's the point of all this...AGHH!!!!!!!!!

For only $10,000, wired directly to my business associate in Nigeria, I'll guarantee you entry into the medical school of your choice! PM me for more information on this once in a lifetime opportunity
Presumably the associate is a deposed Nigerian prince who is willing to send you $3,000,000 once you give him the initial $10K to unfreeze his account.

You aren't serious, right?

Apparently this is a 200 year old trick. The original con was called the Spanish Prisoner trick.

I think there was something similar at USF. Student was a family member or very close with the dean, he pulled strings to get them in despite the adcoms saying hands down this student shouldn't be in med school, failed a couple of classes but is still chugging along slowly but surely.

That's very interesting. I don't know, my guess is it depends on the school. If it's a low tier school, donating 1 million might actually be enough, as a lot of low tier schools always brag on their websites when they get a "one million generous donation". If it's a big name school, then it really depends. I'd say if the school needs something like a new building, or another library, and you can pay, you've got a foot in. Not sure though, as all of this is done "under the table" if you know what I mean. A lot of people might say "yeah nooo you can't get into med school with money it's all fair" blah blah blah... But I think that since this kinda stuff is under the table, then yeah people can get in if they're super rich.

How did the school provide this data? Are you sure the 2.4 and the 17 are from the same student or are they the lowest GPA and lowest MCAT accepted/matriculated? It is a stretch but I could see how someone with a low GPA but a high MCAT or a high GPA but a low MCAT could get admitted under unusual circumstances.

If I remember correctly, the conclusion was that it would be easier to make ties with political figures and have them influence the adcom than to buy your way directly into medical schools.
Make donations of about $10~50K to Governors, Senators/Congressmen and save the extra $1.5M!
